Have you ever considered buying a hot tub for your backyard? Well now is the time! Hot tubs have become more portable, affordable and easy to use for all families, friends and roommates. If this is your first time thinking about getting a hot tub, you probably have a few questions running through your head like … “How much do hot tubs cost?,” “How much time and money goes into maintaining it?,” “How easy is it to relocate in case I move?” We’ve compiled a list of questions for the hot tub buyer, plus more answers to questions you didn’t even know you should ask!

The first question on everyone’s mind…

How much does a hot tub cost?
The cost depends on many factors. Buying a hot tub is like buying a TV… you can buy a very basic, older TV for $200, or a really expensive, smart 3D TV that no one in the family really knows how to use for close to $10,000. With hot tubs, size, material, and quality play a big role in the price. Freeflow® spas start at $3,700 and some hot tubs in the industry retail for $14,000 or more.

How much does installation of a hot tub cost?
This depends on the type of hot tub and your electrical configuration. Most spas need 220 volts, which requires a licensed electrician to set up. This could end up costing several hundred dollars. The alternative is a plug-n-play model, which can be plugged into any standard 110v outlet.

How much will it cost each month to run a spa?
Monthly operating costs are determined by how energy efficient your spa is. When shopping for a new hot tub, make sure to select a spa with full foam insulation. This is the most energy efficient way to insulate a spa.

Do hot tubs come with a warranty?
Yes, most do with varying degrees of coverage. When comparing warranties, it’s important to consider the manufacturer and its reputation in the industry. Freeflow Spas is owned by Watkins Wellness™, a division of Masco Corporation, which has been around for over 80 years. To learn more about the Freeflow Spas warranty click here.

How easy is it to relocate my hot tub in case I move?
All Freeflow spas are plug-in and portable so whether you want to redesign your backyard or move to a new house, all you have to do is put it up on its side on a furniture dolly and move it around. The average weight of a Freeflow Spa without water is only 330 pounds, versus a traditional acrylic spa which is much more fragile and can weigh 1,000+ pounds without water. You would definitely need professional spa movers if you purchased an acrylic hot tub.

What kind of accessories can be bought for the hot tub?
The most popular accessories bought for a hot tub are steps, cover lifters, spa side umbrellas, and handrails to help people get in and out of the hot tub. Some Freeflow models even come with a built in ice bucket for drinks!

What size hot tub do I need? Small or large?
The size of your hot tub will largely depend on your personal preference. If you have a large family and lots of friends over, a 5 to 7-person hot tub would best fit your needs. If you and maybe a significant other are the only ones planning to use it, a 2 to 3-person hot tub would be perfect!

What’s the most popular color?
Sand is definitely our most popular color but not far behind, taupe and espresso are tied for second place.

Does winter climate affect your hot tub?
The insulation and locking thermal cover on all Freeflow Spas will keep the water hot during all seasons of the year. However, if you live in negative 40-degree weather and your spa is covered in snow it will be harder to keep the water hot.

How often do you have to clean it?
It is recommended to pour one cap of chlorine in the hot tub every time you use it, just to help keep the water clean. It is standard to drain the hot tub and refill it back up every 3 months. You may need to clean it more or less depending on how often you use it. Showering before use, and washing bathing suits with soap can help to extend the life of the water.
